FootieCall awards 2011/2012

'Sup Footie nuts. So after this weekend one thing I've come to realise is that, the Barclays English Premier league is by FAR the most exciting league! The final day of this season would have to be the greatest final day ever. Agree?

So we at the Footiecall offices have decided that it would only be fitting to hand out some awards for the season that was. Awards SO prestigious, that the FA themselves are keen to see who our winners are. All 3 of us have shared our expert opinions over the last 2 months. So I felt it fitting that we should award these fine players for the season that was...

Potz - Potz
BCM - BCM
TS - Themba Sweet

Player of the season

BCMVincent Kompany
Captain fantastic. Seriously the difference, when it mattered. Pleased for him. Plays with his heart on his sleeve

Potz - Yaya Toure
Probably Man City’s MVP. Score some crucial goals towards the end of the season. But his consistency was key in getting City to the title.

TS - Yaya Toure
He is the glue that  holds the various playing styles of players who previously have had no experience together. Technically in attack & in defense, his mentality & leadership has put him ahead of every other player for me.

The only award that matters. Thanks FootieCall

Coach of the Season

BCM - Alan Pardew
Loads of murmurs when he was appointed. Proved the doubters wrong by completing some shrewd signings and turning this NUFC side into a force [again].

Potz - Alan "Pardiola"
Raised a few eyebrows after Houghton was sacked. Did brilliantly with Newcastle, narrowly missing out on a Champions League place.

TS - Alex Ferguson
With the amount of injuries he was faced with, up against the most free-spending club in the country, he managed to get the best out of some previously obscure youngsters, fighting all the way to the last day.

YOU doubted me!

Team of the Season

BCM - Newcastle United FC
Many had them down as relegation candidates. Nowhere close in the end. Playing some superb football and holding their own among the top sides in the league.

Potz - Swansea City
Brendan Rogers missed out in the Coach of the season award narrowly. But his Swansea side were something of a revelation in the EPL this season.

TS - Manchester City
A team that wins the league, deserves it.

Young Player of the Season

BCM - Sergio ‘Kun’ Aguero
22 goals in his debut season. One of them the winner to win it. Say no more.

Potz - Kun Aguero
Uhm... 22 goals...league winner? Put that in your pipe and smoke it Kyler Walker!

TS - Juan Mata
For most of the season this player had created the most chances in the league. If only the strikers he was feeding were up to the delivery, Chelsea would be in a different position.

I WON A FOOTIECALL AWARD!!!!!

Signing of the Season

BCM - A toss up between Papiss Dembe Cisse and Kun Aguero. The one is a bargain buy with a penchant for scoring goals...the other cost a bit, but delivered the EPL with his goals contribution.

Potz - Cisse (Newcastle)
Only been in the premier league since late Jan. Has scored a hat full of goals and helped Newcastle in the second half of the season.

TS - Aguero
He was the newly crowned champions top scorer & in a team where many players were in the news for other issues, he kept his nose clean & did a sterling job of scoring goals.

Goal of the Season

BCM - Cisse vs Chelsea FC [Newcastle]
First time hit, audacious and sublime.

Potz - Crouch vs City
First time volley. From miles out. Say no more.

TS - Crouch vs City
I chose this goal since he actually received the ball & knew what he wanted to do, he balanced himself and hit it perfectly. It was premeditated & executed to perfection against possibly the best keeper in the league.

Most Improved Player of the Season

BCM - Lucas Leiva.
Before his long-term injury was putting in some sublime showings for the LFC.

Potz - Lucas
From our worst player to probably one of the best holding mids in the premier league. Was missed like terribly in the latter part of the season. Can’t wait to have him back!

TS - Ramires
Signed after a forgettable Brazilian WC2010, he disappeared into obscurity at Chelsea FC with nobody recalling him when he played. This season he’s come into his own & improved so much.

SEE?! I told you I was good!!!

Miss of the Season

BCM - Torres vs MUFC.
Couldn’t quite believe that.

Potz - Torres vs Manchester United
£50M man....open goals....against Manchester United...wow!

TS - Torres vs MUFC
Simply because at that stage, his goal-scoring was a joke & then he misses a sitter against the then champions. Everybody chuckled for days.

LOL! How the fuck I miss that?!

Blunder of the Season

BCM
Manchester United letting a two-goal lead slip twice, against Everton... will cost you the title #thatisall.

Potz
Fergies team selection vs Man City at the emirates. Really.

TS
The handling of the Suarez/Evra issueThe heritage of an illustrious club & the reputation of one of the game’s legends was dragged through the mud over a silly issue which had been sorted out in court.

Worst Ref of the Season

BCM - Erm, Uriah Rennie...maybe?!

Potz - Clattenburg...terrible decision...just terrible...

TS - Howard Webb, maybe I just don’t like him. Perhaps we should have about 5 names for this one?

Best away Kit of the Season

BCM - Can’t quite remember...who comes up with these awards anyway? (Potz does)

Potz - Liverpool FC 3rd kit (White)
Just look at it!

TS - Liverpool 3rd kit (White)
I saw it & I wanted one. I love it so much that I have pictures of it on my phone. Amazing piece of art. Adidas make great kits, but this change in colour (to the already impressive home kit) just does so much.

Villain of the Season

BCM - Emile Heskey.
He’s rubbish and he’s [formerly] from Aston Villa #seewhatididthere

Potz - Steve Kean (Blackburn Rovers)
He was given enough chances to walk away from Blackburn in order for them to save their season. He didn’t. They got relegated. Twat.

TS - Suarez
From the racism incident to the punch on Ivanovic to poking Parker’s eye to kicking someone in the chest to the constant complaining while lying on the ground to the diving to the teeth.

And this concludes the Inaugural FootieCall awards for the 2011/2012 season. What a season it was. Arguably the best the Premier league has EVER seen. And with a heavy heart, we draw the curtain on it. Congrats to Manchester City on a wonderful achievement. First time in 44 years... almost £1trillion spent to achieve that (Swipe)

Look out for our winner of last weeks prediction weekend. Coming up soon.

Also, follow us on twitter. Exiting news about Euros, transfers and Superbru coming up.
