So Euro
2012 is now in full swing. The Dutch are
giving me some super headaches with their two losses so far. The Germans are
looking great and the Spanish have just brushed aside the Irish in a rather one
sided affair.
There have
been some surprise goal scorers and sadly, some disappointing performances by
some of the players that have either been tipped to produce the goods or have
come into the Euros in the richest of forms for their clubs. Most notably Robin
“He Scores when he wants” Van Persie and Cristiano “I’m better than Messi”
Ronaldo.
After last night’s
demolition of Ireland by the Spanish, I saw multiple comments all mentioning
that “Torres has returned.” Now hold on a second, returned to where exactly? Yes, it was 2 very well taken goals, there is
no denying it. But it just doesn’t make ANY sense to start doing cart wheels
about it. We’ve seen his "return" over 12 times in the last 18 months and this
all followed another slump by the £50Million Chelsea forward.
My biggest gripes
however, are the silly buggers, who are comparing Torres vs RVP and Cr7. It
makes me laugh at the lack of Football knowledge that some people claim to
have. Yes, Torres has more goals than the two mentioned, but then again, so
does Bendtner from Denmark. So according to your brilliant Football philosophy,
the Dane is better than RVP and Cr7? How does this make sense? How can we start
judging a player's class on 2 games at the Euros? I’m judging Torres on the 18
months that he has been awful. How can
you judge him on the 80+ minutes he has played? RVP and Cr7 have finished first
and second respectively in the EPL and La Liga this past season. And just in case
you silly buggers didn’t know, that is over 30+ games NOT two. I'm quite amused that nobody mentioned Torres' 2 terrible misses in the first game against a World Class Italian outfit. But hey, maybe your brilliant Football philosophy focuses on the positives and not on the negatives? It's kind of typical really.
I know that all Chelsea fans and some Torres fans live in hope that this is the start of his turnaround. But to try and even suggest that RVP and Cr7 are not in the same category (or possibly higher) is silly... you buggers.
In all honesty, Spain will probably still have at least three games left, where as RVP and Cr7 could possible only have one game left. If that is the case and Torres ends up with more goals, does that mean that all of Van Persie and Ronaldo's achievements (goals scored) during their respective league campaigns meant nothing? Are you with me? Or am I being bitter about it?
I know this post sounded like a very long tweet and I've probably opened myself up to some abuse. But sometimes, there is no place for silly buggers in Football. No place at all.
