EURO 2012 - The Story Continues

The second round has just about started and already we have had a few surprises.

Russia hammered four past Czech Republic. A result which I didn't anticipate. Denmark then did the [supposedly] unthinkable, by beating Holland, which throws that group wide open AND means that the Dutch can't slip up in their final two games vs Germany and Portugal. Not too tall an order, right?!
Italy holding their own against the holders Spain.

England playing dire football. No surprise there.

Three players who have caught my eye in the first round are:

Simon says tackle!

How good was he at centre half against Holland?! Some may recall how highly he was spoken of a few seasons ago, with the likes of MUFC, City and Spurs all keen on signing him. He is still only 23years of age and i reckon, if AS Roma don't make his move to them a permanent one, he'll be snapped up by some other top EU side after this tournament.

I shall not be selfish. I shall not be selfish

So good when he's on point. So terrible when he isn't. Possibly still suffering from that UCL final hangover?! He was atrocious against Denmark with 6shots off target. Yes, six! You'd think after the 3rd or 4th he'd rather lay it off to one of his other talented countrymen, no, not Robben. I think the Dutch need to draw on their talent now and not so much rely on individuality else they'll be walking towards the exit of Euro 2012. #NoMoreArjenMan

Leading from the front

35years old and still knows where the goals are. His brace last night gave Ukraine victory, a result which puts the cat amongst the pigeons in Group D. It's still early doors of course, but those two goals reminded me of how much quality this guy possesses. The horror-show at Chelsea could so easily have blotted out his contributions at Milan and Kyiv, but, only the foolish would write off the Sheva!

After Tuesday's results, Group A is still wide open. Wednesday could see both Portugal and Holland out the tournament?!

If tonight's game has half the controversy the game in 1990 had, it would be a spectacle.

Remember this?

Euro 2012 continues and Footiecall will be there to cover it.
